About us

 Welcome!

Thrive in 2025

Our Goal for the year is to thrive!  We seek to be relevant to the community and congregation we serve, to be fair to our neighbors and to be Christ like in all that we do.

Rev. Bobby Tyson loves the people of North Carolina and the many United Methodist congregations he served during the past 39 years. A graduate of Duke Divinity School with a Master of Divinity degree, he was ordained a Full Connection Elder in June of 1995. The 15th in the Tyson family line of ordained United Methodist Elders, Pastor Bobby’s call to ministry is strong.

“As long as I can serve God, share the love of Jesus, and make a difference in a congregation is how long I’ll stay in the pulpit,” he says.

During June 2018, though, Pastor Bobby was diagnosed with end stage congestive heart failure and thought he might never preach from a pulpit again. He was heart transplanted at the NC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.  This medical journey was a time of introspection and acceptance of God’s Will whether he would live or be called home to Heaven.

God performed a miracle.  After nearly dying twice, Pastor Bobby recovered. He again received an appointment as senior pastor at First UMC Laurinburg on May 1, 2020. He came to Camp Ground United Methodist Church on July 1, 2023 with renewed vigor, yet with an understanding that health issues can strike his congregation or himself at any time.

He has extraordinary spiritual gifts of empathy and encouragement for the congregation and his family. He is blessed with two sons, a daughter, and two grandsons. He is always upbeat, has an infectious smile, and twinkling blue eyes.

There are many smiles and even laughter from the congregation during a service, but his sermons are thought provoking, to the point, and easily understood by everyone. Pastor Bobby has served congregations in Holly Springs, Williamston, July 1986; Snead Grove, Laurel Hill, July 1988; Duke Divinity School, August 1989; Black Creek-Lucama, Lucama, July 1992; Culbreath Memorial, Fayetteville, July 1996; Lake Waccamaw, Lake Waccamaw, July 2000; Salem, Simpson, July 2004; Trinity, Troy, July 2006; St. James, Tarboro, July 2011; Wallace, Wallace, July 2016; Medical Leave, July 2018;First UMC, Laurinburg, May 2020; Camp Ground, Fayetteville, July 2023.

Pastor Bobby loves the congregation at Camp Ground and invites others to come, see, and hear the goodness of God.  Church service is Sundays at 10 a.m., is live streamed on Facebook, and available on YouTube.

Faith

Faith is the cornerstone of our church. It is part of every activity that we do, every meeting that we hold. We believe in our Lord, and that our actions are a reflection of his goodness.

Scripture

We look to the Lord for guidance in our lives. In Scripture, we find all that we need to guide us in the right path. Reading and understand Scripture helps us all live meaningful lives.

Community

Join us. We welcome each and every one of you to encounter the Lord's unconditional love with us. Inside each of us is a purpose and meaning to be fulfilled by God.
